On November 19, the Committee of School of International and Public Affairs, Jilin University, Communist Youth League held the Fifth Simulated Diplomacy Negotiation Competition in the International Academic Lecture Hall of center campus.

The Simulated Diplomacy Negotiation Competition is a featured activity of School of International and Public Affairs who fully play its subject advantages and open to the whole university. The competition has gained big successes four times with the topics of Ukraine crisis, Six-Party Talks on the North Korean nuclear issue, Syria peace talks, and Vienna Congress. Each competition integrates diplomatic spokesman, press corps questions, crisis management and so on to promote learning and practice by constantly introspecting.

The competition follows current events, focuses on the conflict of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Transcaucasia region with the subject of Nagorno-karabakh peace negotiation, and brings a new step of dealing with independent crisis, which increase the appreciation and participation.

This competition invites the guests of the Party Secretary of SIPA Yang Min, the deputy Secretary of Youth League Committee of JLU Nie Lusong, the Director of Student Affairs Office of SIPA Wang Li, the Secretary of Youth League Committee of SIPA Zhang Shuyan, the Instructor of SIPA Gao Mengge, and the teachers of Cui Yue, Jiang Shuai, Li Menglong, Wu Yanfei, Yan Zhen, Zou Xiaolong as judges.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, this competition follows close to the regulations of epidemic prevention and control to take conferee real-name system and audience registration system seriously. This competition controls the conferee in 80 and measures their temperature with masks wore.

Teacher Yan Zhen gives an opening speech about all previous sessions background, the significance of diplomatic negotiations and using competition to promote learning, which takes a deeper understanding for the diplomatic negotiations and competition. There are 12 competitors from six schools by dual representation. We set six countries ‘seats, the Republic of Armenia, the republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of France, Russian Federation, The Republic of Turkey and the United States. Each delegates make their utmost efforts to fight for their points of view in negotiating and defend national interests. The competition votes for the draft resolution finally. In crisis management, each delegates keep cool and show the ability to improvise and manage crisis when facing judgers voting.

In comment step, Teacher Zou Xiaolong provides some constructive suggestions and Teacher Wu Yanfei gives a wrap-up speech about the expectation for the competition development and students future. The delegation of the Republic of French(Chang Shuaibing of the SIPA and Jiang Yang of SLS) win the outstanding team award. There are 3 students win the excellent negotiator awards, Li Wenqian and Hu Yongheng from the SIPA, Qin Xiaoyang from the School of Law. Later it holds the award ceremony and all the judgers and students take a group photo.

Competitors perform consistently with wit and wisdom in the competition, the relevant and professional comments from the judgers benefit everyone. The Simulated Diplomacy Negotiation Competition is aimed at integrating theory and practical teaching and strengthening cooperative education system which stimulate the students learning passion and cultivate their international perspective and expert mind. “The finer details fall into place when they align with the bigger picture”, we hope each student will remember the motto of university “Truth, Innovation, Aspiration”, and be full of ideals in mind, the country in eyes.
